The new scoreboard will make its operational debut during the Carolina Hurricanes' first preseason game on Sept. 18, against the Nashville Predators.

(Raleigh, NC) – The Centennial Authority, in association with Gale Force Sports and Entertainment, today announced the completion of a new state-of-the-art centerpiece of the RBC Center. Construction and testing has been completed, and the scoreboard will make its operational debut during the Carolina Hurricanes’ first preseason game on Friday, September 18, against the Nashville Predators.

“Completion of this project further demonstrates the Centennial Authority’s commitment to maintain the RBC Center as a state-of-the-art venue,” said RBC Center’s vice president and general manager Dave Olsen. “This upgrade will significantly enhance fan’s experiences at the arena by taking advantage of the advances in video technology since the building opened in 1999.”

The $2 million unique display was designed by industry leader, Daktronics of Brookings, SD, and features 14 individual LED displays – four primary video, eight auxiliary video and scoring, and two circular rings. The primary video displays are among the largest LED video displays in the NHL and are capable of displaying 4.4 trillion shades of color.

The new system affords new opportunities for sponsorship integration. Sponsors will have enhanced creative messaging options through motion graphics and other eye-catching content. The displays will also provide fans with enhanced features for in-game information, out-of-town scores, promotional messages and crowd prompts that create a more interactive experience.

An additional $2.3 million was used to outfit the control room with high-tech upgrades and HD conversion by Diversified Systems, Inc. The facility provides the tools necessary for the production staff to create a fully engulfed, interactive, multi-media experience during game nights. CanesVision - the team responsible for all in-game production for Carolina Hurricanes hockey and NC State University men’s basketball games - will operate multiple tiers of LED screens to control graphics, slow-motion and editing platforms.
