Carolina Hurricanes

The Hurricanes relocated to North Carolina in 1997, and played their first two seasons in the Greensboro Coliseum. The team opened its current home, PNC Arena (formerly RBC Center), in Raleigh on October 29, 1999 vs. New Jersey Devils.

In the years since PNC Arena opened, Carolina has played host to the Stanley Cup Finals twice, in 2002 and 2006, hosted the National Hockey League Entry Draft in 2004 as well as the 2011 NHL All-Star game, drawing international attention to Raleigh. On June 19, 2006, the Hurricanes defeated the Edmonton Oilers, 3-1, in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals to bring the state of North Carolina its first major professional sports championship.
