Traffic Advisory: Capacity Crowd Expected for Carolina Hurricanes Season Home Opener January 22

(RALEIGH, NC) - The Carolina Hurricanes will host the Tampa Bay Lighting in the season’s home opener at PNC Arena on Tuesday, Jan. 22 at 7 p.m. The anticipated capacity crowd is expected to create heavy traffic delays during the evening commute. Areas to be heavily impacted with event traffic are I-40, I-440, Wade Avenue, Blue Ridge Road, Trinity Road, and Edward’s Mill Road. There will be evening ramp closures on Wade Avenue eastbound at Edwards Mill Road.

Those attending the event should carpool if possible, and arrive early. Parking lots will open at 4 p.m. and PNC Arena doors open at 6 p.m.

If arriving at PNC Arena after 6 p.m., anticipate ramp closures and detours on Wade Avenue and Edward’s Mill Road, as parking lots will fill early. Local traffic is encouraged to consider alternate routes.

North Raleigh afternoon commuters should consider Glenwood Avenue and I-540 as alternate routes to I-40 Westbound. This is also the recommended route for US-64 commuters to avoid heavy traffic.

All evening eastbound and westbound traffic should avoid Wade Avenue Exit #289.
