‘Canes & PNC Arena to Host Hurricane Sandy Relief Drive

RALEIGH, NC – Davin Olsen, Executive Vice President and General Manager of PNC Arena, today announced that the Carolina Hurricanes and PNC Arena will host a Hurricane Sandy relief drive from today through Friday, Nov. 9. Staff members will drive the items collected to Staten Island this weekend, delivering them to the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation for use in the recovery process.

Fans wishing to contribute items may do so any day this week from 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. at PNC Arena’s VIP Entrance, adjacent to the box office. Carolina Hurricanes Head Coach Kirk Muller and Vice President of Hockey Operations Ron Francis will be on hand to help collect items on Wednesday, Nov. 7, from 12 – 1 p.m.

Items needed for the relief and clean up efforts include:

  • Tools
  • Heavy Duty Brooms & Rakes
  • Masks
  • Work gloves
  • Garbage bags
  • Storage Bins/Boxes with Tops
  • Flashlights/Battery Operated Lanterns
  • Other clean-up materials 
  • Packing Supplies
  • Tarps
  • Packaged Adult and Children Underwear (we were notified they have recieved an ambundance of clothes, but are in need of undergarments).

The Stephen Tiller Tunnel to Towers Foundation was created in honor of FDNY firefighter Stephen Tiller, who gave his life on 9/11, in order to follow in Tiller’s example of selflessness. The Foundation has established “In the Line of Duty” programs for firefighters, first responders, military and “Legacy of Love” programs to make a lasting and positive difference in the lives of children who have lost one or both parents.
